Day in the Life—Chinese
Student
Imagine peeling an orange and finding
a segment or two missing. You’d think something
was wrong with it, wouldn’t you? Orange, a Chinese
college student, chooses to see and help people others
might miss: those suffering from leprosy—a disfiguring
disease that attacks the skin, flesh and nerves. While
Orange acknowledges his lack of belief in God, he also
sees little evidence that Americans have a personal
relationship with His Son.
Theme: We must show God’s
compassion to those who are hurting.
Scripture: Luke 10:25-37
Discussion Questions:
1. Orange’s desire to help others comes from what
source?
2. How does Orange distinguish help from love?
3. Who is Orange’s god?
4. What is the main focus of Americans according to
Orange?
5. How could American Christians help change Orange’s
opinion that Americans lack a personal relationship
with Jesus?
Pray For …
* Someone to lead Orange to faith in Jesus Christ so
that he may share it with the patients and students
he’s around.
* Orange as he balances schoolwork with his desire to
offer help at the hospital in Phan Wan.
* The patients suffering from leprosy at the hospital
to know Jesus in the midst of their pain.
Ellen—A
Young Chinese Christian
Ever
left anything behind at a movie theater, like a jacket
or a purse? If you got the item back from the lost and
found, you were probably first, extremely relieved and
second, extremely surprised. Ellen was just a teenager
when her mother died from cancer. Her loss was compounded
by the fact that she didn’t feel as loved as her
brother. In fact, boys, Ellen insists, are more highly
valued in Chinese families than girls. Ellen couldn’t
believe that a God of love would take away the only
person that she felt loved her. Then God put her in
the path of the Campbells, a missionary family. Today,
Ellen feels loved again by this family and by Jesus,
who has put a faith and His song in her heart.
Theme:
God knows our hurts and fills our hopes.
Scripture:
Psalm 37:4
Discussion
Questions:
1. Why do you think Ellen’s one thought was to
go to church when she knew she would lose her mother?
2. How did Ellen’s father respond to Ellen after
his wife’s death?
3. How did the pastor from Hong Kong explain to Ellen
why God sometimes takes things away?
4. What did Ellen experience when she fasted?
Pray
For …
* Ellen as she grows as a Christian.
* Messengers with the gospel to lead Ellen’s father
and brother to Christ.
* The Campbells to help others who are hurting.
