LIFTING NORTH AFRICA TO GOD-Students pray for North Africa while looking out over the region. The Berbers of North Africa call themselves Amazighen, which means "The Free People." Proud and independent, they have lived in the mountainous desert region of North Africa for thousands of years. They wait to hear about the love of Christ.
7080-18.jpg (34123 bytes) CHILLING-In the desert, you find rest-and shade-wherever you can. In this case it was a bus, where members of the college volunteer team passed the time.
7081-16.jpg (39687 bytes) TASTING THE CULTURE-Students sample a traditional meal under a North African tent. Following Arabic classes, the group spent time in open-air markets and other places-experiencing scenes and smells unchanged since the time of Christ.
7084-04.jpg (24295 bytes) BEAUTIFUL FEET-Beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news, says Scripture. These students brought the good news of Jesus Christ to the thirsty hills of North Africa. They followed the command to go to the nations sharing their faith-despite the hardships of being in a country with extreme restrictions on sharing the gospel.

SEEKING GOD IN THE DESERT-Andrew, a student team member, looks out on a courtyard from an ancient North African tower. A hard life greets the peoples of this region. Acrid land and dry conditions yield nominal crops. In the desert, ancient dirt and rock forts still stand guarding water sources-the most precious commodity in the desert regions. The Living Water of God is even more precious.
7090-31.jpg (37858 bytes) WEAVING A FRIENDSHIP-Rebekah tries her hand at traditional weaving-and making a new Berber friend. Everyday, wherever I go and enter into conversation, I always leave people with the Arabic phrase 'God is love.' That is what they need to hear."
7092-32.jpg (47769 bytes) IN A DRY AND WEARY LAND-In the parched land of North Africa, two students pray for a refreshing movement of God's Spirit. "Colossians 1:6 is so true," said Brandon. "All over the world, the gospel is bearing fruit, whether we know it or not. God's victory-His promise-is happening. It is not going to be stopped by any man or spiritual opposition."
7103-30.jpg (38536 bytes) GREETING OF LOVE-Heather embraces a new friend in North Africa. "God showed me that 'closed access' countries are not scary places, but places where He is," she said. "He showed me that Muslim peoples are not hard to witness to. Many are hungry for the truth. God showed me that it is easy to share my faith-I can't count the times people came and asked me to tell them about Christ and I was able to share the gospel, and my personal testimony, openly."
