Faces from Turkey

[ back to Photos ]

These photos were taken in Turkey by Michael N., a student at Louisiana Tech. Michael went with a volunteer team from the school to work with some of the survivors still rebuilding their lives after the devastating earthquake that hit Turkey in late 1999. Three other Tech volunteers reflect on what God showed then during the trip:

Boyd:

“I have gained a greater understanding of … how God works through men in situations where it couldn’t be anything less than God. I see the stages of preparation for revival in a land that is far from God. God has allowed us to come as He has allowed earthquakes. God is turning a nation to himself. I see it. I recognize God moving. I give Him the glory that I get to be a part of it.”

Brandi H.:

“Yesterday, everywhere we went our guys have totally seen a need and met it. Some of the ladies were shoveling the rocks into buckets and the men were just watching them. So our guys jumped up to help them. Cleave saw this little boy who was freezing. He took off his sweatshirt and put it on him. We saw kids who didn’t have socks on, so we took ours off and gave ours to them.”

Kellye:

I didn’t see anyone come to know Jesus while we were there, but God reminded me I am the seed planter, the waterer, the one who turns up the soil. I was prepared not even to have the opportunity to share, but I know God can be seen in the unspoken word, in our eye, in our touch, in our faces. And I pray He will.
