Teacher
Kenya
God did not call me out of secular work, but he gave me valuable
experience through working in a non-ministerial field. Now I’m
going to use my teaching background as I work in missionary kid
education in Kenya.
Prepared in public schools
I taught school for 10 years--seven years in the public school
system. Through prayer, and then trusting in God's power, I was
able to make an impact on many students who, otherwise, would not
hear the gospel at all.
God gave me the courage and the ability to share my faith on many
occasions. I'm not talking about a vague discussion about God. I
mean a specific, detailed account of the necessity of putting personal
trust in Jesus Christ, son of the living God. I prayed often to
be a positive role model for Christ in my daily work.
Faithful and available
People in secular careers should not just wait to realize a “call”
in the distant future. We all should pray to be used even while
we may not know God is going to call us elsewhere for more "spiritual"
work. I did not know what God had in mind for my family and me,
but I tried to remain faithful with what God had entrusted me.
As it turns out, God did call us to international missions. We
realized this only about a year ago. My wife and I have always asked
God to use us any way He desires. We tried to remain available.
I cannot stress enough the importance of staying available, ready
at all times to be used of God. We tried to be faithful with the
task at hand, while waiting on His perfect timing.
