People Group Focus:
The Bozo of West Africa

To be a West African Bozo (pronounced BOH-zoh) is to be a fisherman and a boat builder. The word Bozo means “house of bamboo.” The river controls Bozo life. It could be said that the river is their life. They are a semi-nomadic people who travel the rivers of West Africa looking for the best fishing spots. Many Bozos supplement their food supply by farming during the rainy season. The vast majority of the Bozo practice folk Islam. There are about 10 known Christians among the 200,000 Bozo people. Prayer Points for the Bozo

1. Pray that the Bozo will thirst for the Living Water that is the provider of life.

2. Pray that God will enable missionaries to develop close relationships with these individuals who have a nomadic lifestyle and often live and work far from their homeland.

3. Pray that as the Bozo accept the truth of Jesus Christ, their nomadic way of life will become a key in spreading the gospel across West Africa. Ask God to transform the lives of the Bozo so that they will become "Fishers of Men."
