Olympic Ministry in Thessoloniki

With the Olympics just 12 months away, Greece is quite the scene at the moment for volunteer activity. Many folks are desiring to come and minister to people from around the world who will converge here for the Olympics. Our team in Thessaloniki, Greece, is busily preparing for nearly 300 volunteers next summer. That is our biggest prayer request.

This past summer we saw the power of college students who were on Mission with Him. We had a team of six students Texas come and spend 4 weeks here doing personal and relational evangelism. The soil is very hard in Greece and there are very few believers. These students, however, loved meeting local Greek Nationals and quickly made over 40 good friends! This was almost more than they could even manage and far blew away any expectations that we had - funny how our expectations seem to never be on scale with God's. College student volunteers here are so effective because one of the largest universities in Europe (Aristotle University with 70,000 students) resides right in our backyard. It was incredibly rejuvenating for our small team here to work with these college students in planting seeds all over the city. We are awaiting their return for six weeks next June.

This past June, one of our team members also hosted, to our knowledge, the first foreign lead baseball clinic in Thessaloniki. Baseball is developing in Greece and they are in need of assistance. We had a small team from the States come in with a great deal of donated equipment and they helped facilitate this week long event at a local sports coliseum. God really blessed their efforts and plans are underway for a repeat performance next year.

The needs in Thessaloniki are great. We need teams of college students to survey young adults in our city and do personal evangelism with them. During the summer, we will host International World Changers, iWitness Ministries, Global Impact, and 8 other ministries from the States.

Many of these projects depend on college students to be successful. Our sincere prayer is that everyone reading thE-TASK will consider coming to Greece for a short time next summer. The world will be focusing on our country over the next 12 months - our goal is for them begin focusing on God instead. We hope to see you here soon!
