Necessary IMB Travel Insurance for Student Mission Trips

Why You Need Travel Insurance | Enrolling for Travel Insurance Paying for Travel Insurance | Info Needed on Your Project

The International Mission Board Required Travel Insurance is a package of essential coverage for the international traveler. This coverage can be inexpensively acquired because of the large volume of volunteers who serve through the IMB.

All groups and Individuals will be required to purchase overseas medical insurance for $2.00/day per person. For more information, click here.
Why you need this coverage:
  1. Your US medical insurance may not cover medical expenses incurred overseas. Many persons today are covered under Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs). Some of these arrangements do not cover medical expenses incurred outside of their operating area, particularly outside of the USA. Persons covered by more traditional insurance arrangements may find at the time of a claim that the company will accept only bills in a certain standard USA format, and only in US dollars. If you don't submit the claim in this fashion, your claim could be denied.

  2. Assistance Service and Evacuation Insurance is an essential part of covering yourself in the event of an emergency while abroad. Assistance service can be considered your "9-1-1" number while you are abroad. The service is staffed 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, and accepts collect calls from abroad to help you in the event of a medical or other emergency. Evacuation insurance covers the costs of transporting you to a place where adequate medical care is available, and if necessary, back to the USA where your US medical insurance can take over the payment of your medical expenses.

  3. Disability Income is also provided in the IMB Travel Insurance. In the event of a serious accident rendering you disabled, this coverage is available to pay a monthly benefit. There is also a reduced benefit in the event that a sickness disables you.

  4. Property Insurance is included as a part of the IMB Travel Insurance, and is very broad in its coverage. Most coverage on property is limited to "baggage" while it is checked with the airline; ours covers your property from "doorstep-to-doorstep".

Enrolling for Travel Insurance

In your approval packet is a sheet which gives you the login name and password for online insurance enrollment. Once you have logged in you can view the coverage and complete the enrollment form.

Once you receive your project assignment, complete and submit the insurance enrollment form (see the link at the bottom of the page) and your payment to Adams and Associates.

Paying for Travel Insurance

Send your full payment to Adams and Associates by check or call them to pay with credit card. If you pay with credit card, be sure to have your insurance enrollment form in front of you. DO NOT SEND YOUR PAYMENT TO THE IMB .
